August 18, 2012

Every year the Arkansas Crawlers sponsor a trip to Superlift ORV Park. Not only are there a lot of Arkansas Crawlers there, but also MidSouth Jeepers from the Memphis area. The theme this year for the camp is Super Heroes and the date is August 18, 2012.

Camp Sunshine was founded in 1991 by a nurse who worked at the Burn Center who had the desire to develop a camp for children who survived burn injuries. The goal of the camp is to promote physical and emotional healing as well as growth and development of burned children. Camp Sunshine, has given an opportunity for burn survivors across the state to establish lasting friendships, experience personal growth and develop life-long memories. In the past 18 years, the camp has grown from four campers to over 50 participants, not including approximately 70 volunteers and counselors.

Camp Sunshine is generously sponsored and co-organized by the Arkansas Professional Firefighters Association. They conduct fund-raisers throughout the year to make the camp free for survivors. In 2005, the Little Rock Firefighters generously accepted a payroll deduction plan to raise their share of the funds.

The camp is open to children 4-17 years of age who have sustained over 10% total body surface area (TBSA) burns with scarring and/or children with significant scarring over hands or face. In addition to firefighters and staff members from ACH, adult burn survivors may attend as a counselor or volunteer.
